About the Role

This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated and resilient individual to join a thriving educational community as a full-time, permanent Learning Support Assistant (LSA). Starting in September, the successful candidate will provide tailored academic, social, and emotional assistance to students navigating their education. Operating in the third person, the role acts as a vital bridge between teaching staff and students, ensuring that young adults of all abilities can fully unlock their academic potential and confidently prepare for their future endeavours.

About the School

The school is hosted within a highly regarded, forward-thinking academy family known nationwide for its deep commitment to community transformation and inclusion. This specific academy values holistic development, recognising that students are whole individuals with interconnected emotional, social, and academic needs. With a relentless focus on raising attainment, establishing focused routines, and cultivating an environment where young people are well-mannered and driven to succeed, the institution provides a beautifully designed, state-of-the-art space where both staff and students are encouraged to become the very best versions of themselves.

  • Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
  • SEND Awareness: A solid baseline understanding of neurodiversity, including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and SEMH needs.
  • Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK.

Essential Skills

  • Active Listening: The ability to listen closely to student's concerns to accurately diagnose learning bottlenecks.
  • Differentiated Communication: Adapting explanations and terminology to match a student's specific cognitive pace.
  • De-escalation & Emotional Regulation: Remaining calm under pressure and guiding anxious students through stressful exam periods.
  • Behaviour Management: Implementing positive reinforcement strategies to keep study environments productive.
  • Literacy & Numeracy Competency: High-level academic proficiency to assist with complex essay structuring and data analysis.
  • Time Management: Balancing support schedules across multiple students and subjects effectively throughout the school day.
Core Responsibilities
  • In-Class Target Support: Delivering direct, focused assistance to individuals or small groups during advanced level lessons.
  • EHCP Implementation: Executing specific strategies outlined in students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Resource Adaptation: Modifying complex learning materials and curriculum tasks into accessible, digestible formats.
  • Progress Tracking: Documenting student interventions, milestones, and setbacks, and reporting them regularly to the SENDCo.
  • Exam Access Arrangements: Acting as a reader, scribe, or prompt for eligible students during official assessments and mocks.
  • Independent Skill Fostering: Encouraging students to develop autonomous study habits, note-taking skills, and revision schedules.
  • Pastoral Mentorship: Providing a safe space for students to discuss academic anxieties, helping them build long-term resilience.
  • Staff Liaison: Meeting regularly with subject teachers to feedback on student comprehension and discuss upcoming lesson goals.
  • Environment Maintenance: Ensuring the learning support hub remains an organised, welcoming, and inclusive space.
  • Safeguarding VIGILANCE: Adhering strictly to school safeguarding policies by identifying and reporting any welfare or well being concerns immediately.
