About The Role
You'll be the master plumber of our data infrastructure, creating seamless pipelines that transform complex travel and expense data into actionable carbon insights. Your expertise will directly empower global enterprises to make smarter, more sustainable decisions about how they move people and goods around the world.
Think of yourself as a sustainability detective - tracking down elusive data sources, interrogating inconsistent formats, and ultimately revealing the hidden carbon story behind business operations.
What You'll Be Doing
Customer Sleuthing & Requirements Extraction
- Chat directly with customers to uncover their deepest, darkest data needs (in a professional way, of course)
- Translate vague requests like "We need to see our carbon thingy" into precise technical specifications
API Wizardry
- Craft elegant integrations with client systems that make data flow as smoothly as a perfectly pulled pint
- Build connections so reliable they could make long-distance relationships jealous
ETL Pipeline Craftsmanship
- Design and build robust data pipelines that extract, transform, and load data from Travel Management, Expense, and HR systems
- Continuously tinker with and improve your creations - because perfection is a journey, not a destination
Data Quality Guardianship
- Implement validation processes that catch dodgy data before it can cause mischief
- Develop consistency controls and automated tests that would make even the most particular librarian proud
Cross-Team Collaboration (No Silos Allowed)
- Partner with Reporting experts, Product Management, and Customer Success teams to identify patterns and opportunities
- Become the go-to expert on travel and expense data (yes, it's more interesting than it sounds!)
- Share your wisdom with colleagues through documentation that people might actually want to read
What You'll Bring to the Table
- 5+ years of experience in data architecture, modeling, and warehousing
- Experience working directly with customers
- Track record of scaling data platforms through orders of magnitude of growth (impressive!)
- Experience building a data lake or warehouse from scratch (we promise not to make you start from scratch)
- Mastery of state-of-the-art ETL tools and techniques (the more acronyms, the better)
- RDBMS expertise; SQL fluency; query optimization wizardry
- 3+ years of Python programming experience (snake charming skills a plus)
- Familiarity with DBT or SQLMesh (bonus points for strong opinions about either)
- Early-stage startup experience (comfort with controlled chaos)
- Exceptional common sense and ability to navigate ambiguity (when the map ends, you keep going)
Bonus Points For
- Experience with travel industry data (OBTs, TMCs, expense systems)
- Hands-on time with open-source tools like DuckDB, Spark, Trino, Iceberg, or Deltalake
- FP&A systems knowledge
- Data visualization prowess (especially Tableau)
- TypeScript experience (it's what our ETL is written in now)
- Data Science background (for when you want to get fancy)
- Superior data wrangling skills (for when the data refuses to cooperate)
