Senior Backend / API Developer - PHP or Python | £50K-£60K | Wakefield - On-site We’re seeking a Senior Backend Developer or API Developer to play a key role in the modernisation of internal systems. This is a hands-on opportunity to help replace a monolithic PHP platform with scalable, service-oriented APIs across all areas of a growing business.
As a Senior Backend / API Developer, you’ll work alongside the lead developer to define architecture, build APIs, and implement best practices across a new modular ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities for the Senior Backend Developer:

Build and maintain RESTful APIs using FastAPI (Python) or Laravel (PHP)

Shape service boundaries and data flows for internal systems

Document and maintain API standards, including OpenAPI specifications

Collaborate with front-end developers to ensure seamless integration

Define strategies for scaling, security, and observability
About You:

Proven experience as a Back-End Developer building APIs in real-world systems

Skilled in Laravel (PHP) or FastAPI (Python), with a clean code approach

Solid understanding of relational databases - especially MariaDB or MySQL

Strong grasp of version control, testing, and deployment best practices
Salary & Benefits:
