Job Description:

Company Description: Gus Periscopes Ltd is a specialist provider of armoured fighting vehicle (AFV) vision safety solutions, designing, manufacturing, and repairing custom and standard periscopes, episcopes, and vision blocks. Based in Cwmbrân, South Wales, the company is a wholly owned subsidiary of GuS Glass + Safety GmbH in Germany and serves both UK and international markets through an agile team of engineering and manufacturing specialists. With over forty years of experience, the GuS brand is known for safety, quality, and durability, supported by core in-house manufacturing processes that ensure high-performance products. GuS Periscopes Ltd is ISO9001:2015 and Cyber Essentials certified, and uses advanced 3D CAD, optical simulation, and rapid prototyping to develop and refine solutions in close collaboration with end users. The company is driven by the purpose of “protecting those who protect us,” including the ability to reverse engineer and upgrade obsolete or legacy vision systems.

Role Description: This is a full-time, on-site CNC Operator role based at the GuS Periscopes Ltd facility in Cwmbrân. The CNC Operator will set up, program, and operate CNC machinery to produce precision components for periscopes, episcopes, and vision blocks in line with engineering drawings and specifications. Day-to-day tasks include selecting tools, performing test runs, monitoring machine performance, and adjusting settings to maintain accuracy and efficiency. The role involves inspecting parts, documenting measurements, and working to strict quality standards to ensure consistent product reliability and safety. The CNC Operator will collaborate with engineering and production teams, perform routine machine maintenance, follow health and safety procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong machine operation skills, including experience setting up, programming, and running CNC machinery.
  • Candidates should possess machining and milling skills for producing precision metal and glass components to tight tolerances.
  • Candidates should possess quality control and inspection skills, including the use of measuring tools and adherence to ISO-quality standards.
  • Candidates should possess general machinery knowledge, including routine maintenance, fault identification, and safe operation of workshop equipment.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in machining, manufacturing engineering, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Experience in a precision manufacturing or defense-related environment is advantageous.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, use measurement instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers), and follow documented work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, reliability, and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
