We really value in-person collaboration and this role requires 2 days a week at our Newcastle HQ. This is a 15 Month contract.

What will your typical day look like?

Within Atom’s FP&A team, finance is far more than backward-looking reporting - it is an active driver of commercial strategy, product pricing, and business growth. We are looking for a commercial, proactive Finance Business Partner to join us on a 15-month fixed-term contract.

You will join a high-performing finance team that values development, open dialogue, and genuine commercial influence. You won't be pigeonholed into a single ledger; you will gain broad visibility across the whole bank while directly shaping commercial decisions.

In this role, you will act as a key commercial co-pilot across our balance sheet. While the position primarily steps in to support our high-priority Savings team, our scope remains broad and holistic, giving you exposure across lending, deposits, and strategic projects across the bank.

• Commercial Decision Support: Appraise new products, features, and business cases using practical Excel calculations and Net Present Value (NPV) assessments.
• Scenario Modelling: Use existing model infrastructure to run forward-looking sensitivity and scenario analyses, helping the business evaluate alternative paths.
• Treasury & Risk Collaboration: Partner closely with Treasury on liquidity, funding adequacy, stability of funds, and ALCO treatments, while staying tuned to market dynamics (such as MPC rate decisions).
• Commercial Challenge: Review outturns with commercial stakeholders, challenging assumptions constructively to ensure financial plans remain robust and achievable.
• Executive Communication: Translate complex financial figures into clear, visual, and actionable presentations for executive leadership and ExCo.

• Qualified (or qualified by experience) accountant with proven commercial finance or FP&A business partnering expertise.
• A self-starter who doesn't wait to be tasked; you spot anomalies, trends, or risks, formulate a proposed solution, and manage upward effectively.
• Experience in retail banking is an advantage given the contract timeline, but we are fully open to candidates from other sectors who have strong core accounting skills and have done their homework on how a bank operates and generates value.
• Comfortable running scenario inputs and building practical, transparent investment appraisal calculations in Excel.
• Familiarity and openness to interrogating AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) to work smarter, troubleshoot formulas, and streamline routine tasks.
