About the Role

Summary

We’re looking for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Data Officer to join our GIS Data and Support Team. You’ll be supporting properties to maximise their contribution to the National Trust’s ambition to create more nature rich and climate resilient landscapes, end unequal access to nature, and inspire millions to take action.

What it's like to work here

You’ll be part of a team who specialise in spatial data management. We lead on creating organisational value from data; ensuring our enterprise spatial data is trusted, understood, well governed and that we maximise the value from data to deliver our strategy.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week and this role may involve travel to properties across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

You’ll develop and maintain Python based tools, scripts and automated workflows that support the management of critical ecological and spatial datasets. Coding and technical problem-solving will form a significant part of your day-to-day work, with a focus on creating efficient, reliable solutions that improve the way data is captured, processed, managed and shared across the organisation.

You’ll design and implement technical solutions that enhance data quality, streamline business processes and improve the user experience across our GIS platforms. This will involve identifying opportunities to automate manual tasks, developing innovative approaches to common challenges and ensuring that systems and workflows are robust, scalable and fit for purpose.

The role also includes the management, analysis and interpretation of spatial data using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. You’ll be responsible for maintaining high standards of data integrity and quality assurance while applying geospatial analysis techniques to support operational delivery and strategic decision-making.

You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.

Who we're looking for

You’ll bring a broad range of the following knowledge, skills and experience, shaped by different roles, sectors or career paths, and the judgment to apply them effectively at scale;

  • Experience working with geospatial data and GIS platforms, ideally ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.?
  • Experience developing solutions using Python.?
  • Ability to automate workflows, manipulate and transform data, and solve technical problems through coding.?
  • Knowledge and experience of standard ecological survey and monitoring techniques, including UKHAB.?
  • Analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.?
  • Ability to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.?
